Sal is the Cape Verde island for sun-drenched beach and watersport lovers. A well known kitesurfing and windsurfing hotspot – Sal has beach front hotels and restaurants and a lively nightlife.
Sal is a very hospitable island and most holiday accommodation is located in and around Santa Maria, which is an established and thriving tourist resort. It is also a good base for exploring some of the other islands.
The island of Sal has 4 main towns: Espargos – the island’s capital and home to the majority of islanders (and a few great restaurants); Santa Maria – the main tourist resort; Murdeira – an up and coming tourist resort; and, Palmeira – a fishing village with port and lobster farms, buzzing with traditional daily island life.
Sal has miles of beautiful white sandy beaches with crystal clear blue ocean, providing some idyllic spots – perfect for pure relaxation and soaking up the year round sun!
Santa Maria also retains much traditional charm with its cobbled streets and colourful portuguese style houses and the town square, filled with the sounds of local music and surrounded by shops, bars and restaurants.
For watersport enthusiasts, Sal has become one of the top locations for windsurfing and kitesurfing and is also a great destination for fishing and for scuba diving, with abundant marine life and wrecks to discover.
